MOVING VIOLATION, a multifaceted installation by artist Mark Nelson and is curated by Jay Wehnert of Intuitive Eye

Cellist David Tam will perform four MOVING VIOLATIONS on the patio

MOVING VIOLATION, a multifaceted installation by artist Mark Nelson opens at 14 Pews on September 27, 2013 from 6 to 9pm.  Movement is a basic human experience.  It is essential to all of us. However, this universal experience is also unique and individual to each of us.  Mark Nelson creatively explores this central aspect of ourselves through the realities of his own life, so that we may reconsider them in our own.  Employing videos, paintings, photographs and tapestries, Nelson simultaneously examines the phenomenon of movement from both highly personal and broad societal frameworks. Slyly humorous, subversively provocative, and always deadly serious, his work will make you think about and experience what it means to be a body in motion.

Mark Nelson was born in Salina, Kansas in 1957. He received a BFA in photography from Pratt Institute and an MFA in photography from the University of Houston. He was a Fellow at the New York University - American Photography Institute’s National Graduate Seminar.  In 1998, Mr. Nelson started GLASS FREE GROUNDS a public art project that addresses the issue of dangerous broken glass debris in Houston public parks. He has received multiple awards and recognitions for this project and most recently was awarded a 2013 Individual Artist Grant from the Houston Arts Alliance. Mark Nelson resides in Houston, Texas.

MOVING VIOLATION continues at 14 Pews through October 26, 2013
