Hank Lamb presents his Music Film Series
talkback led by Roger Wood

This film series starts with "The American Folk Blues Festival Vol. 1, 1962-66" with footage unearthed after 40 years, this is one of the finest blues collections ever put on video. It includes Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Sippie Wallace... the list goes on.  Their concert performances (several in stagy but effective "down-home" settings) before a German audience, on tour, have them playing in some cool combinations such as T-Bone Walker backing Memphis Slim, Otis Rush with Junior Wells), even one with Sonny Boy Williamson on guitarist Lonnie Johnson, an elder statesman on the tour: "A very nice musician")--and all with great sound (mono, but still flawless) and visuals (in black and white).  It's a masterpiece of the times, the Blues and these American music pioneers.

In between these films we have Guest Speaker Roger Wood, author of "Down in Houston: Bayou City Blues" a lovingly detailed portrait of the Houston blues scene, past and present.  Roger is a former Professor and historian, having taught at  Houston Community Colleg and now serving as an Adjunct Professor.  Roger will be speaking about the ties some of these original Blues Players had to Houston.  Roger will speak briefly and answer a few questions before we begin the last [part of the day's fun.

Additionally, the final partion of the date is a short film very rarely ever seen, "The Howlin' Wolf Story", featuring his life and work.   Some of the sotry is told in Howlin's own words, by the man himself.
