I wanted to invite you to our 14 Pews Open House this Sunday, May 20th @ 1PM. Our goal at 14 Pews has always been to connect, engage and empower our community through the arts. In addition, to food and drinks, we’re inviting members of the Houston community to join us in a lively conversation about what they would like to see in this historical space. As many of you know this venue at 800 Aurora Street was at one time the Sunset Church of Christ, which was known for its choirs. For over 60-years song has resonated in this wood. Then in 1997, it became the home of the Aurora Picture Show, which is still a thriving arts organization with an International Reputation. In 2010, I purchased the property and built out the stage and unbolted the pews from the floor, so the space could be more versatile. In August 24, 2010 we had our first Open House - it was the same day that the Angelika Film Center closed, which was a little foreshadowing about the role that Netflix and Amazon would have in independent film. We as a nonprofit are trying to evolve and survive and look forward to hearing from our community what new visions they would like for this historical property.
