KID COOL THEREMIN SCHOOL teaches young children and adults the fundamentals of playing Theremin, the first electronic instrument, invented 1919, that generates sound without being touched. Hand motions translate into sound, allowing a fun and creative approach to train hearing, motoric skills, rhythm and melodies. Our program provides a unique way of expression in a fun environent for children and parents alike.

In the current age of gadgets and technology, a Theremin presents itself as a cutting-edge music instrument for kids to explore sounds, motion and music - defying conventional playing methods and rules, kids have no barriers exploring this truly creative instrument, leading them to find their own voice.

Invented 1919 by Russian electro physicist Lev Sergejewitch Termen, the Theremin is the only instrument that generates sound without being touched. Notoriously hard to play, it is one of the first electronic instruments that inspired the creation of synthesizers in future generations. Historically, the Theremin is one of the earliest electronic instruments, introduced to audiences in the early 20th century. Subsequently it served as the basis from which electronic musical instruments of the 20th century were later developed but has always been notoriously underestimated in its own capacities in the pantheon of music instruments up until now.

Dorit Chrysler, founder of KidCoolThereminSchool has also co-founded the NY Theremin Society. She has a BA in musicology, University of Vienna and is currently holding a long term residency at Pioneerworks, Center for Art & Innovation in NY, curating its music department. She has developed the Curriculum for KidCoolThereminSchool over six months of teaching 24 children the Theremin, exercises which are currently filmed for online Tutorials in collaboration with Moog Music. Her Theremin Compositions have been commissioned by MoMA, the Venice Biennale, Performa and the most Recent HBO Documentary on Scientology "Going Clear". Dorit has been teaching Theremin at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, the Moog Factory in Asheville NC, the MOCAD in Detroit, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Bucknell College in PA and Pioneerworks in Red Hook, NY. She has co-produced a ten piece theremin orchestra at the LA Disney Hall. Performing Theremin Solo Concerts worldwide, her most recent travels have brought her to Brazil, Japan, China and Russia. A mother herself, her 5 year old son is one of her most avid Theremin students.

"New research suggests that parts of the brain controlling motor skills, hearing, storing audio information and memory become larger and more active when a child learns how to play an instrument and can apparently improve day to day actions such as being alert, planning and emotional perception."
