On February 20, 2014, a film crew working on the Gregg Allman biopic "Midnight Rider" in Georgia were setting up to film on a train trestle when a freight train came through killing 2nd AC Sarah Elizabeth Jones and seriously injuring many others. The impact of this devastating event rocked the film community and sparked a worldwide movement "Slates For Sarah." This accident was not only preventable, it is allegedly the result of gross negligence on the part of the production which, it seems, did not have the legal permits to shoot on the live tracks. How did this happen? What can be done to prevent this type of tragedy from ever happening again?

As members of the film community, it is our responsibility to ensure our own safety and the safety of our co-workers. Film Cares and 14 Pews will be hosting a meeting designed to inform you about basic safety principles on set, what your rights are as employees on a production, what your obligations are to ensure yours and others' safety and how to communicate to production, the union or OSHA if you observe a safety issue on set. What you learn in this meeting could save your life! So, please, make every effort to attend.
